Elif Erdine

AA Istanbul VS Programme Head

Architect, designer, and researcher. Currently, she teaches at the Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture, Emergent Technologies and Design Graduate Programme. She is the Programme Director of AA DLAB Visiting School and AA Istanbul Visiting School. She has worked for Zaha Hadid Architects during 2006 – 2010. She received her B.Arch. degree from Istanbul Technical University in 2003 (High Honors), and M.Arch. degree from the AA Design Research Lab (AA DRL) in 2006 (Project Distinction). Her projects have been printed widely in international and national architecture publications. Her research interests include the role of the individual building within complex urban systems, and the exploration of various flows in the urban environment as design drivers, and biomimicry.

Şebnem Yalınay Çinici

Istanbul Bilgi University Head of Architecture Department - Bilgi Coordinator

Architect. Graduated from Middle East Technical University in 1989, completed her master’s and doctoral degrees at the same university. Completed her postdoctoral project at Columbia Universtiy, Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, with her consultant Kenneth Frampton in 2001. She worked as an academician between 1992 and 2006 at Architecture Department of Middle East Technical University and then between 2006 and 2011at Yıldız Technical University. Since 2011 she works as an academician at İstanbul Bilgi University and she is also Head of Architecture Department of the same institution since 2012.

Aslı Aydın


Aslı is currently a PhD student at Istanbul Technical University, Architectural Design Computing Program, and a research assistant at Istanbul Bilgi University. Her research focuses on design education, design computation, digital tools and fabrication. She received BArch degree from Middle East Technical University in 2008 with high honors and MAA degree from IaaC (Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalunya) in 2009. She holds MSc degree from Istanbul Technical University, Architectural Design Computing Program, with her thesis written under the advisory of Mine Özkar titled “Material Computability of Becoming Forms” (2014).

Cemal Koray Bingöl


Cemal Koray Bingöl is an Istanbul-based architect whose research is focused on computational design technologies through computer programming and electronics. He finished his study at Computer-Aided Architectural Design Master’s Programme at Yildiz Technical University after he got his bachelor of architecture degree from Istanbul Technical University. The main subject in his master’s thesis is simulating urban sprawl, which he went on an exchange program to TU Eindhoven to study urban design for 6 months. He has been teaching at Istanbul Bilgi University since 2013 and giving lectures in various universities on ‘computational design’. Meanwhile, he has been collaborating with various design offices, academics and institutes under Epitome {collaborative network}, which he co-founded in 2013.

Gamze Gündüz


Gamze Gündüz is an architect, graduated from Yildiz Technical University, Department of Architecture in 2010. After working in several design studios she continued her education and earned a M.Arch degree from the Digital Tectonics Studio of IaaC (Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia), where she also attended the Open Thesis Fabrication Program. Right now she is working as a Lecturer in İstanbul Bilgi University while pursuing a PhD degree in Istanbul Technical University, Computational Design Program. Her research interests lay between generative algorithms, composite material studies and digital fabrication.

Alexandros Kallegias


Alexandros Kallegias graduated from the Architecture School of the University of Patras and completed his postgraduate studies at the Architectural Association Design Research LAB (ΑΑDRL) in London. He is the Head of the AA Athens Visiting School, the AA Summer DLAB and the AA Greece Visiting School where he teaches as Studio Master. He is also a key member of the AA Istanbul Visiting School. His research has been published in peer reviewed reports and international publications. He gives lectures in Greece and abroad while he has been an invited in juries like the Archiprix 2015 in Ankara. He is an Associate Lecturer at the School of Architecture at Oxford Brookes University, and he has previously taught in the School of Architecture of Liverpool University. His practice background includes being a Senior Architect at Zaha Hadid Architects, acting as BIM Coordinator for different projects in different countries.

Alvaro Lopez Rodriguez


Alvaro Lopez Rodriguez is a Spanish architect, holding an M.Arch from the European University of Madrid and a B.Pro M.Arch in Architectural Design (M.Arch AD) from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. Prior to moving to London, Alvaro has worked with R&A and ALF Arquitectos in Madrid. He has a wide experience in digital manufacturing, working for the B-made at the Bartlett School of Architecture in the Digital Manufacturing department and with some collaboration with different projects like the Swiss pavilion for the Venice Biennale 2016, or the Digital Grotesque for the Pompidou Center. Currently is combining the digital fabrication lab at the Architectural Association, with several research projects in digital and robotic fabrication.

Benay Gürsoy Toykoç


1986, born in Ankara. Currently lives and works in Istanbul.

Received her B. Arch (2007) and M.Arch (2010) degrees from METU Department of Architecture and is currently a PhD candidate at Architectural Design Computing Program at Istanbul Technical University since 2010.
Working as a fulltime instructor at Istanbul Bilgi University Faculty of Architecture, her interests and teaching focuses on computational and generative design methodologies, basic design education, material computing and cognitive studies of the design process.

Ilkan Cemre Acar

Teaching Assistant

Born in 1994 in Turkey, Cemre is a senior student at Istanbul Bilgi University Department of Interior Design with a double-major program with Architecture. Since childhood, she continued to observe different medias and tools, ending up with architecture as a branch where she can discover the reflections of environmental relations as much as the relations between space and time. She is working as a laboratory assistant for architectural production techniques at Make@Bilgi, where she has been a founding partner for 2 years. She participated in various workshops focusing on architectural landscape. She aims to be a part of architectural and interior projects where she can touch the lives of things.

Elif Soylu

Teaching Assistant

Senior student at Istanbul Bilgi University, Department of Interior Design with a double major program with Architecture. She is the co-founder of Make@Bilgi and working as a lab assistant since 2015. She participated to IABA International Architecture Biennial with Common_Action_Gardens in 2015. She was involved in Dreams of the City Workshops in Chamber of Architects for three years, focusing on public space and urban interventions. In 2016 she met AA Visiting School Istanbul during the Tectonic Symbiosis workshop. At the same year, she was also involved in Critical Urban Practice workshops and a study to design an alternative city guide as a part of 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial. Recently, she is involved in the library project for Centre for Spatial Justice. She is the assistant curator of Xeamül Exhibition, a dictionary for alternative design interfaces. She aims to focus on the sociology of architecture and public spaces in the upcoming years.
